I’m Victoria Haffer, and I’ve walked the path of self-discovery and recovery from addiction and trauma. I’ve faced addictions to food, love, co-dependency, overspending, and more. As Tommy Rosen says, addiction is like a game of whack-a-mole—just when you think you’ve conquered one, another appears. Sound familiar?
Addiction isn’t just about alcohol or drugs. It shows up in so many forms: food, control freak tendencies, workaholism, overspending, relationships, prescription meds, negative self-talk, or even scrolling on social media. At its core, addiction is any behavior you do repeatedly, knowing it causes harm, but feeling powerless to stop.
Many of us turn to these behaviors to numb the pain we’ve never had the tools to heal. Trauma from childhood, adolescence, or even the womb gets buried deep, only to resurface as anxiety, chronic pain, autoimmune issues, fatigue, or that constant shame-blame-anger cycle.
It’s not your fault. You didn’t have the tools or support to process it. Maybe you’ve tried therapy or self-help but still find yourself stuck in the same patterns. You numb out with chocolate, wine, online shopping, or scrolling your phone, craving the next dopamine hit. You wake up every day, plaster on a smile, and start the cycle all over again.
